The Digital Product Passport
as part of the EU Ecodesign Regulation
Background, status and implementation
The digital product passport combines information on components, materials, reparability, spare parts and disposal for a product. It contains data from the entire product life cycle and supports reliable consumer information and sustainable consumption decisions.
Progress
The new EU Ecodesign Regulation is scheduled to come into force in the Q2 2024 and apply from 2030 at the latest.
What is it about?
Basically, the regulation has the following aims:
The circular economy will be significantly expanded.
Products shall
- Be manufactured in a more resource-efficient way
- Be more energy efficient
- Last longer
- Be easier to repair and recycle
The Digital Product Passport (DPP)
- It will be a central element of the new regulation
- Information gaps that currently prevent a circular economy should be closed
- A QR code (e.g.) should provide information about the manufacturer, the materials and, above all, about repair and disposal options.
- The target group for this passport includes various market participants such as processing companies, authorities, recyclers and, of course, end users.
- The digital product passport will contain both product master data and life cycle data
- According to the current situation, it will always be the distributors of a particular product who are obliged to issue the passport.
ECHO PRM was and still is a pioneer
Since 2021, ECHO PRM has been helping to close the communication gap between product manufacturers and users.
The provision of information and communication between the players is made possible and easy to implement through various functions.
Idea born out of practice
Founding of ECHO PRM GmbH
Many manufacturers and suppliers from a wide range of industries use ECHO PRM
Integration of the requirements of the Digital Product Passport (DPP)
ECHO PRM already offers the option of providing very granular product information down to the unique product (e.g. serial number).
As part of the EU Ecodesign Regulation and the digital product passport, ECHO PRM will adapt to the new requirements.
ECHO PRM as a partner for the Digital Product Passport
Analysis and background
This landing page is the beginning.
ECHO PRM stays in the loop, collects and analyzes information at this point and becomes the first point of contact for implementation.
WE are looking for partners for pilot projects
We want to bring theory into practice and are looking for companies that want to start a pilot project for the Digital Product Passport.
The Battery-Pass
Batteries are the first product group for which the DPP will be implemented – already in 2027.
We are supporting the concrete implementation as a project partner.
